Samsung EX1

Samsung EX1

This little camera is capable of some great images, in good light. In low light it really is terrible. Most of the time no focus is possible and the images are just mush. Terrible is the only word for it. But, if I'm going for a little walk and just want a light camera with me then it's fine. I have some more images from the EX1 that I would like to show in the next post or two.

Voigtlaender Skopar 50 f2.5

This image from the Skopar I really like. The texture and the detain in the mushroom is great. I've only used this lens on an Olympus camera up to now, but planning on testing it on the Nex-5N as soon as I get a chance.

This really is a tiny lens and you have to get used to the quirky way to change aperture on it. To do this you have to holt the focusing ring with one hand and rotate the front element with the other. First time I've seen this but I suppose I can get used to it. I also had difficulty in getting sharp images with this one but looking at these, they seen alright. Rendition is typical of a Voigtlaender lens, and I really like it.

This is a strange lens. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't. Sort of a love hate relationship. This one turned out ok I think. Maybe that's because there's only grass in it. Only time will tell if stays with me.

Panasonic GF-1

Panasonic GF-1

This really is a classic camera. Coupled with the Panasonic 14-45 (which is the sharpest of the kit lenses in my opinion), it's very portable and produces great images.

Pentax SMC FA 43 f1.9

Pentax SMC FA 43 f1.9

There are some great lenses out there to use on these CSC systems. I agree that soem are not that cheap but this lens was bought some time ago and really didn't cost me that much. I think I could sell it today for much more than I bought it for. However, that is not the reason I have it. I get a lot of pleasure from my photographic equipment.
If you look at the image notice that there are a lot of trees in it but, only three really matter. Those are the three in the foreground. Try so see things in threes, three trees, three people, three buildings, it doesn't really matter. What's important is that you have three and only three of the same in the image. I believe it makes the composition much stronger.

Another one fro the Minolta, taken only minutes after the image in my previous post. Great colour, sharp and contrasty. I really can't complain.

I take this type of image to see how the lens reacts to these high contrast areas. No CA seen here at all. Mayb the light was too good for this one but sometimes I like how the image turns out. Plenty of detail in this one. I believe the lens cost me in the region of 20 Euro. There are some real bargains out there if one has patience and is willing to shop around a little. Some of these cheap legacy lenses are the best I have, costing very little.

Sony Nex-5n and the 18-55 Kit Lens

Sony Nex-5n and the 18-55 Kit Lens

One taken with the Sony 18-55 kit lens. I think I got a good one because there's no decentering at all. Nice lighting, taken early evening during a lovely autumn day. There seems to be ample sampel variation with this lens, the later ones proving to better than the original released ones.

Sunset

As I look at this image the first thing I see is some banding in the colours between the hills and the moon. Shame really because it is not there in the original image. A product of downsizing for web in jpg format I suppose. Taken in the Black Forest region of Germany during a September break.
