What impresses me about this image is the amount of detail in the castle walls. Many criticize this lens as pretty mediocre but I like it. If the details in this image doesn't impress thos the I don't know what will. Ok, it's not a Leica but it doesn't cost as much as those lenses either.

12/03/11 Monochrome ImagesThis is Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg located in the Alsace region of France, just west of the Rhine river. Very impressive indeed. A lot of the castle has been reconstructed over the years (as is still in progress) but still impressive.
The image taken on an E-PL1 and Olympus mZD 14-150 lens (I just like pairing the two and has been up to now my travel combination). Conversion to monochrome done in Nik SFX which gives you endless control over how you want the image to appear. The next couple of images will also be in monochrome, developed in exactly the same way as this one. 1549

12/02/11 Monochrome ImagesMonochrome images do have that special something that I find hard to define. This one from the Olympus E-PL1 and the mZD 14-150 was put through Nik SFX which is about the best converter out there today. 1573

10/04/11 Lightroom 3.5I decided to test the latest version of Lighroom with the Nokton images I took the other day. I've been using Silkypix for a number of years and I've quite happy with the output it gives me with my Pasasonic camera. I wasn't very impressed with the earlier versions of Lightroom but I did keep it up-to-date thinking that Adobe would get it';s act together sooner or later. Well, I had quite a surprise. The output is simply superb. It's still quite fast on my old machine (maybe an excuse to upgrade?) and Silkypix keeps getting slower and slower with each update. Could be my imagination though.
My normal workflow if to develop my raw files in Silkypix and do the rest of the work in Photoshop. What I experienced was that the files from Lightroom required a LOT less work in Photoshop, actually very little work needed doing. The image in this post had no work done at all in Photoshop apart from reducing for web use and a little sharpening. I'm amazed. I think I'm going to have to some more work with Lightroom. The learning curve is quite steep coming from Silkypix but I think it's going to be worth it. 3033

08/17/11 Another conversion with SFX2This is another conversion with SFX2 of an image I posted a few days ago. It's not bad but I think I prefer the original colour version. Some images work in B&W and some don't.

E-PL1 Focal Length: 0 mm Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/80 sec ISO: 800 08/15/11 Converting to B&WJust bought Nik Silver Efex Pro 2. Excellent piece of software. I believe it's the best conversion package out there right now for B&W. Mind you I haven't tried them all, but I don't need to go any further than this package. Presets and control over what effect you want. 1878
