I don't think I heard a bad band all day. This one consisted of all age graoups and were pretty jazzy in style. Normally not my sort of thing but quite entertaining and they pulled a large crowd. It was difficult to find a spot for a clear shot.

08/07/13  Panasonic G Vario 14-140 f4-5.8These musicians were moving all the time and this is where you really see how slow this lens is. The Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 would have been better suited for this type of photography. I was also in the shade with skyscrapers all around me. I took bursts here to be certain that I got one sharp image. I tend to do this quite often. Many believe this to be quite amateurish as it may well be, but then again, I am an amateur. I don't mind going through the images once downloaded to my PC because I really don't have any time pressure. I just delete all those that don't make my standard in the first culling viewing. 1128

08/05/13  Panasonic G Vario 14-140 f4-5.8There were quite a few imaginative displays during the open day and this was one of them I thought. A crane hoisted these musicians high above the crowds to play their instrumants. There is actually a piano up there on the platform which shows you how big it really was. The music was pretty good too. 888

08/04/13  Panasonic G Vario 14-140 f4-5.8There will be quite a few posts coming up showing images from this combination (Olympus OM-D and the original Panasonic G Vario 14-140 f4-5.8). The aim is to show the image quality one can expect if utilising this lens on a modern sensor. I'm not planning on writing much with each post, I think the images speak for themselves. This image was converted in Nik SFX2 as usual. It looks similar to yesterdays post but is in fact the second frame I took of the fountain. It is slightly different but difficult to see if flipping between the two posts. 945

08/03/13  Panasonic G Vario 14-140 f4-5.8The last image was taken at 95mm and is pretty sharp. This image was taken towards the wider end at 22mm. Again I can't complain, it's ok for my purposes, since most of my images are taken for web viewing only. I rarely print big and when I do print it's mostly in the form of photo books. You can see the effects of keystoning, where the buildings tilt inwards. I was down on my knees with the camera pointed slightly upwards. I wanted to get the statue in the bottom with the water fountain and also the buildings with the sky reflection. Normally when I take this sort of image I tend to exaggerate the effect but here I couldn't get down low enough to exaggerate it further. If you're going to get this effect then exaggerate it as much as possible. 852

08/02/13  Panasonic G Vario 14-140 f4-5.8I've shown this floating barbeque platform before. It seems that whenever a fair or something similar is on, this float comes out too, but only during fair weather. Personally I think it's a great idea, especially with the umbrella to shade the people from the sun. The weather here in Germany hasn't been good at all this spring and summer but it seems to have settled now and we will get some sort of summer. Heavy rain has caused extensive flooding, this being the second time after the flood of the century in 2002. People have been wiped out for a second time; I just don't know where they get the drive and energy to rebuild their lives again. I have to take my hat off to these people, because this sort of flooding is devastating. This is the first time that I've used this combination of Olympus OM-D and the Panasonic G Vario 14-140 f4-5.8. This is the original lens that I bought with my Panasonic G1 camera because I thought I would get more into video. Well, the video idea just didn't take off because it's just not me but I kept the lens anyway. It's not half bad. I read on a forum of someone using this combination so I thought I'd give it a try. The combination does tend to be a little front heavy due to the lens but is manageable. As some of you may know, I don't tend to mix lenses from one manufacturer with cameras from another. My belief is that the lenses and cameras are being matched up and that's the way they should be used. This lens is definitely to be used with cameras like the G and GH series from Panasonic. The grip makes all the difference. That's my opinion anyway. Panasonic have now introduced a second version of this lens, it's a little faster and not as heavy which I believe was a good idea from Panasonic. It is also smaller which will make it universally a better lens for other cameras. It is also cheaper. Personally I won't be buying it because I have this one and I have the Olympus mZD 14-150 for that system. I think the 14-150 is one of my most used lenses because it offers good performance over a wide focal range. 903

I called this image simply "Balloons" because it is the centre of attention. If you look carefully everything else in the image isn't quite sharp because of the slow shutter speed (1/40th sec). Only the balloons are relatively sharp. Well, there is a slight blur to them but it's ok for me at this size for Internet viewing. I remember when I was a child the only balloons I could get hold of were one colour only, either blue or red or green etc. I find these balloons in the image pretty cool actually. I was just pondering on the fact that most of my images are now displayed on the web. Not many are printed, I just don't have the room to hang them all, or even just the best of the bunch. From what I have read on the Internet, this is how the majority of images end up these days. There are so many images being made at present it would be impossible to print the majority of them or even a small proportion. A lot of people still like to see a printed photograph which is the only way to really assess an image. It gives one something more than just looking at these images on a screen which is rather cold in my opinion. Holding a print in your hands or seeing it hanging on a wall is really something special; it is to me anyway. I have a number of images hanging on my walls at home and these do get replaced from time to time, but not on a weekly basis. What I tend to do is make books from my favourite images. I'm now on number 7 and I do tend to be selective as to what comes into these books. True, these are only A4 in size which is something like 30 x 20 cms (12 x 8 inch approximately) in size, but I do get them out from time to time. I never used to do that when I was shooting film. They just ended being in a drawer and tended to be forgotten. I also do a book after every holiday, some tend to be quite large and others not. It's important for these holiday books to contain much more information about what we did and where we were, more documentary in style. It's great fun doing these and a lot of people have asked to see them. It gives them an indication of what's available in the region. It is also a different type of photography to my normal way of shooting. How do you people of there display your images, web or books or prints? I'd love to hear from those who tend to display their images in prints. Do you frame the images yourselves or get it done professionally? 936

07/31/13  Panasonic G5 - Panasonic G X 35-100 f2.8 HDThis is one image that contained a lot of CA. I was quite horrified when I first looked at it. Lightroom managed to eliminate all of it with just a couple of seconds work. If you think that the sky should be blue, you'd be mistaken. Those were storm clouds coming in and about 30 minutes later it started to rain. 1031
