If you're looking for a bargain lens for the m4/3 system, then look no further. The 45 f1.8 is small, fast to focus and delivers extremely sharp images. This is a medium tele lens in 35mm terms (90mm lens) which is about my focal length that I like to use. A nice pertrait lens too and all can be has for less than €300. What more can one ask for.

E-M5 Focal Length: 45 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/400 sec ISO: 200 10/27/12 Yashica 55 f2Background separation. Some like it some don't. Portraitists like it I believe because the subject is brought out as the image. Which is what they want of course. I managed to separate this foxglove because of the aperture I used and the distance to the trees in the background. Again I wanted to bring the foxglove to the fore as the main subject of the image and contrast was again high. Dialled in negative EV again so the background goes dark and press the shutter. It takes you a little time to get the focus right because you have to go beyond the focal plane and back again. I do this a few times before I decide on the focus point I need for the subject to be in focus. Fun though. 1430
E-M5 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/1250 sec ISO: 200 10/25/12 Nik SFXIIGoing off topic slightly here, but the image was still taken with the Yashica 55 f2 lens on the OM-D. I just see some images will work in B&W and when I see that I convert these images immediately with Nik SFXII. I don't see these thing all the time but once in a while one image does stand out from the rest, and the image above is one of those. It might be difficult to see at this size but it's all about how the light fally on these withering leaves. This piece of software gives you so much control on how you do the conversion, it's difficult to stop playing around with the settings and just say "OK, that's finished".
For those who haven't tried this software package, I highly recommend that you do. You won't look back once you've tried it. It's addictive. 2325

10/24/12 Yashica 55 f2Notice the shallow DOF you get with these lenses and sensor size. A lot of people like the m4/3 format because of the increase in DOF you get because of the smaller sensor. These tend to be landscape photographers who require everything in focus from near to infinity. It can however, work the other way around. Because of the 2x factor with the focal length and the fact that the longer the focal length of the lens, the shallower the DOF will be, you can produse effects like in the image above. 1786
E-M5 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/60 sec ISO: 200 10/23/12 Yashica 55 f2I tried this lens on the OM-D and found the resolution and contrast very good. But it is harder than using these lenses on the NEX I admit. I tend not to use the magnify function on these cameras as it distracts me. I've got used to it now that I get perfect focus 95% of the time.
The next few posts I willl try to show you what is possible with these lenses. If you're willing to put the effort in the rewards can be very high. Most, if not all of these images, were taken wide open at f2 or thereabouts. 1316

03/24/11 Spring at LastAt last! Seems I've been waiting for months for spring to arrive. Well, in Spain anyway. This bee was busy last week, all his interest was geared for the flowers now open. Once back home, I realised how much sooner spring arrived in Spain. Had a bit of a shock as I stepped off the aeroplane. Anyway, won't be long now. 2272
E-PL1 Focal Length: 150 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/320 sec ISO: 200 03/05/11 Spring on the march.I like these type of images, especially at this time of year.
It means that spring is finally starting to show her face.
Not long now. 2202
