02/12/14 Canon,G1X,--- no text --- 1179
unknown Focal Length: unknown Aperture: unknown Exposure Time: unknown ISO: unknown 02/12/14 Canon G1X IINow this is surprise! Since I'm in the middle of posting some images from the Canon G1X and embarassing myself stating that I didn't think Canon would bring out a second version of this camera, well I've just been proved wrong. It does look interesting and I'm going to wait and see how the image quality is. They have, I must admit, made some significant improvements to the camera that matter to me. A faster lens, a longer lens that goes from 24mm to 120mm which is excellent. The lens on the G1X was rather short at 112mm at the long end. They finally got rid of that useless OVF and replaced it with an external EVF (wish it was internal like the Panasonic GX7 but we can't have everything). It's smaller than the original although the EVF gives it a hump again. All in all, a good upgrade and although the pixel count is down, it's plenty for my use. Available in May this year, depending on where you live. 1059

unknown Focal Length: unknown Aperture: unknown Exposure Time: unknown ISO: unknown 02/08/14 Canon G1XI know I posted some images from this camera only a short time ago, but I must come back to it. I took it back home with me together with the Panasonic LX5 which produced some amazing images while there. So I would like to post some collages (2 images per page) to show you what this camera can do. Just because it's got a crappy OVF (which is unuseable) and it's a fixed lens camera, it doesn't mean that it can't produce some nice images. Don't forget it has a 1.5" sensor in there which is quite large. It looks like a P&S and handles like on too but had a bigger body. Even Dpreview had a hard time classifying this camera, because it's not an ordinary run-of-the-mill P&S. 1042

DMC-LX5 Focal Length: 5.1 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/400 sec ISO: 125 02/06/14 Panasonic LX5This is probably the best image I have ever taken with the LX5. That's my opinion of course. The light was difficult and changing all the time. Again, this camera has impressed me but the image has of course been worked on in Lightroom v5.2 and in Photoshop. When purchasing a film camera, it lasted a number of years and new cameras were seldom. You just didn't get the yearly updates we are experiencing today. You were then locked into that system because what was even more important were the lenses you bought for that camera. The lenses were the most important element and that still holds true today. Cameras come and go but if you purchase a good lens you tend to keep it. Some might be asking where is all this leading to, so I'll just come out and say it. In my opinion, today, what is becoming more apparent is that the most important part of the final image is how it's processed. If you decide to shoot in jpg format and do nothing with them after you'vce downloaded them onto your PC, then yout images will always be mediocre. You might get one or two very good ones but the majority will be just so-so. Your opinion might be different than mine on this point - thoughts? 1462
DMC-LX5 Focal Length: 5.1 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/500 sec ISO: 125 02/05/14 Panasonic LX5Some fine images, for me, were captured during the few days when I was back in my home country. I just hope you enjoy these as much as I do, and it was great fun being back there again. 1136
DMC-LX5 Focal Length: 5.1 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/500 sec ISO: 125 02/04/14 Panasonic LX5I must say one of the things I love on the LX5 is the format change ring around the lens. I change format quite often and that ring is a godsend. I wish all cameras had it. I believe it's becoming fashionable on these type of cameras anyway so that's a good thing. 1199
