04/15/12  Sony Nex CamerasAnother one of those images that I could look at for hours on end. I haven't seen that many different shades of pink or magenta in such a short period of time before. It changed within a matter minutes but continued for a couple of hours. The oranges and reds of a sunset seemed to be stronger too (but that could be my imagination). Simply wonderful. The 18-55 kit lens again played it's part here. I think this is the best kit lens I've ever used. The later batch of these lenses seem to be better than the earlier ones. I've seem some terrible photographs from earlier models. 1059

The light was magical and I just can't start to explain it here. I hope the images do it justice. If you have just enough cloud cover then you are guaranteed great light in this region at this time of year. You just have to be out on deck and have some warm clothing on. One tip I can give here is get some gloves that are not too thick and sit quite tight around the fingers. You have to wear them and use the camera at the same time. If you don't have any gloves on, your fingers will fall off within a very short period of time (feels that way anyway). 1185

04/12/12  Sony Nex CamerasTaken about 1 minute after the image in my last post. Converted in SFX2 and a high key profile applied. I like it. It was actually very dark at the time. I'm very impressed with this lens and the Nex-7 isn't bad either. 986

04/11/12  Sony Nex CamerasTaken with the Nex-7 and the CV 15 f4.5. I used this lens the most on this camera from the legacy primes that I took with me. I just set it to f4.5 or f5.6 and set the focus to just over 2 meters. That was it. I then held the camera to my eye and shot away, it was too cold to focus. Worked well most of the time since the scenery was rather a long way away. This was actually shot at the North Cape. 944

04/10/12  Sony Nex CamerasI have many images similar to this one simply because there were many views like it. We were very lucky with the weather on the second half of the voyage, simply stunning sunsets. many find this type image as a cliche, and maybe they are, but I like them. No reason not to take a photograph. 1043
NEX-5N Focal Length: 31 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/100 sec ISO: 100 04/09/12  Sony Nex CamerasTaken with the lowly 18-55 kit lens and the Nex-5N, this is my wifes favourite image of the entire voyage. I must say, I'm quite partial to it myself. I find it hard to image being a fisherman in these climates. Two minutes in that water and you would be dead and the fishermen here have to work with the water all day ever day. Must get used to the cold after a time or if you're born there, you know nothing else I suppose. 1017
NEX-5N Focal Length: 20 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/60 sec ISO: 200 04/08/12  Sony Nex CamerasI believe I've mentioned this before, but the light we experienced on the voyage was simply fantastic. This pink / purple colour in this image was typical of early morning (early morning means mid-morning normally) light and the scene is typical of the views seen all day every day. When I had the 18-55 kit lens on I used AF exclusively. It did come in handy because of the difficulty in holding the camera still long enough to get accurate manual focus. My eyes were streaming most of the time from the wind which made manual focus extremely difficult. 1239

Really, it seemed to be all in one. The sun popped up over the horizon for a short time and, just as quickly, it was gone again. Dark at three in the afternoon.
Most of the images taken on the voyage were of course costal shots. Stops at each port varied between 15 minutes and 4 hours. Not a lot of time to do something when leaving the ship to see something alse. Having said that the weather was bitter at this time of year, very icy and the wind was very cold. 1136
