I call this image "Blue Water" for obvious reasons. I find it interesting because the roots look like outstreched arms reaching out to the water. It has a blue colour because it's in shadow of course. I cold have changed it but I like the image the way it is.

Canon PowerShot G1 X Focal Length: 27.801 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/80 sec ISO: 100 01/30/14 Canon G1XLet's go back to this misfit camera for a day ot two. I'm actually quite impressed with the detail in the images and dynamic range isn't all that bad either for the size of the sensor (1.5"). 908
Canon PowerShot G1 X Focal Length: 28.797 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/8 sec ISO: 100 01/26/14 Canon G1XSome cameras produce images that convert well to B&W. Others are only ok. The files from the Canon G1X are ok and don't come close to those from the Fuji cameras. The Fujis (X-E1 and the X100S) produce files that are a dream to convert in Nik SFXII. The image above was processed in my normal workflow and it looks slightly oversharpened to me so I'm going to have to modify my workflow slightly for these images. Most camera files require a certain workflow because each manufacturer process them differently, even in raw format. Another tip if you are using or planning on purchasing the Canon G1X, underexpose slightly. It does tend to overexpose and the whites will blow out for you unless you compensate. I think every Canon camera I've had tends to do this and it has become a matter of fact that I enter a negative EC on all Canon cameras that I use. 1202
unknown Focal Length: unknown Aperture: unknown Exposure Time: unknown ISO: unknown 01/25/14 Canon G1XIf you're interested all these images were processed in Lightromm v5.2. I only shoot raw because the raw converters get better and better so you could go back and reprocess all your raw files if need be. I have noticed a big difference between Lightroom versions and with v5.2 new functions come in to play all the time. If you're a jpg shooter only, think about taking some raw images and process them in the latest software package you have. There will be a big difference in image quality. I guarantee it. One thing I've noticed is that when taking images at it's widest focal length, and then you use the distortion correction in LR you will see a little pincushion effect at the top and bottom of the images. This means you will have to crop slightly, but it's very minimal. You lose only a little resolution, and it won't affect your prints (if you print) in any way. 904
Canon PowerShot G1 X Focal Length: 34.102 mm Aperture: f/8.0 Exposure Time: 1/160 sec ISO: 100 01/24/14 Canon G1XTaken at full zoom which is equivalent to 112mm.You have to admit it's quite sharp with plenty of detail. 967
Canon PowerShot G1 X Focal Length: 60.4 mm Aperture: f/8.0 Exposure Time: 1/250 sec ISO: 100 01/23/14 Canon G1XNo text today. Just enjoy the image. 917
Canon PowerShot G1 X Focal Length: 21.302 mm Aperture: f/8.0 Exposure Time: 1/320 sec ISO: 100 01/22/14 Canon G1XYou must admit the image quality is very good. One thing that came to mind when I got the G1X was the size of the thing. Lets put it this way, it's not small. It will fit in a jacket pocket and forget about your shirt pocket. It's a little larger than I anticipated for a P&S camera, but I can live with that. 1199
Canon PowerShot G1 X Focal Length: 38.56 mm Aperture: f/8.0 Exposure Time: 1/250 sec ISO: 100 01/21/14 Canon G1XI wanted to show the image quality with some larger resolution shots. They're not all that big but these individual images a little more than my conposites of the last two days. 1010
Canon PowerShot G1 X Focal Length: 15.1 mm Aperture: f/8.0 Exposure Time: 1/160 sec ISO: 100 01/20/14 Canon G1XSo, why did I purchase such a camera in the first place? Well, I was after a camera that I could take with me where I knew that one of my other system cameras wouldn't be used and that photography wasn't the reason for going there. I was after a camera with a large sensor had a fixed lens and a reasonable zoom on it. It had to be cheap! This is the only camera that offered all of the above at the time I purchased it. I got it cheap on ebay again. The sensor was the overriding factor why I actually bought it, since my main system is m4/3 and this sensor is larger than the 4/3 sensor. There were probably better choices out there with even a larger sensor but they cost an arm and a leg. I didn't want to spend well over €400 for something that wasn't going to be used every day. So, what's the image quality like? Actually very good as the above image shows. More images to follow in the coming days. 1046
unknown Focal Length: unknown Aperture: unknown Exposure Time: unknown ISO: unknown 01/19/14 Canon G1XIf I were to ask you what the misfit camera that exists on the market today is, what yould you say? Me, I'd say it has to be the Canon G1X. I really can't tell you where it belongs and the only thing I can say is that Canon must have been conducting an experiment of some sort to see what the market wanted. I can't place the camera in any category because of quite a few reasons. It has a large 1.5" sensor which is bigger than the m4/3 sensor, so I would assume that image quality must be good, provided the sensor proves useable. The body is more like a P&S camera, except it's rather big. It certainly isn't pocketable. The OVF is a joke and it's not really useable. Mine is fine as centering goes, but I've heard that some aren't even useable in that sense. I really don't know why they incorporated one really. One thing I like about it is the EC dial a la Fuji X100S and I don't have press another button to access the EC function. It's not really fast to lock focus, put I can't that it's not useable either. It's just OK. So why this camera? See tomorrows post. 1039
