I believe I've mentioned this before, but the light we experienced on the voyage was simply fantastic. This pink / purple colour in this image was typical of early morning (early morning means mid-morning normally) light and the scene is typical of the views seen all day every day. When I had the 18-55 kit lens on I used AF exclusively. It did come in handy because of the difficulty in holding the camera still long enough to get accurate manual focus. My eyes were streaming most of the time from the wind which made manual focus extremely difficult.
