Panasonic GM5 - Panasonic Lumix G Vario 35-100 f4.0-5.6

Panasonic GM5 - Panasonic Lumix G Vario 35-100 f4.0-5.6

On the way to the south of France for a wedding and some relaxation afterwards. I decided to make this my Sony test phase so to speak. Until then I hadn't really taken my Sonys out for an extended period of time. At the last minute I decided to add the Panasonic GM5 with the 12-32 and the minute 35-100 f4-5.6. As these images get posted, and there are quite a few from different cameras using different lenses, I'm sure it will become clear that I was glad I took this little wonder along.

My equipment for this 3 week holiday was as follows:

  • Panasonic GM5 with the G Vario 12-32 f3.5 - 5.6 and the 35-100 f4.0 - 5.6 lenses
  • Sony RX1 with external viewfinder
  • Sony A7, A7II and A7S bodies
  • Native lenses: Sony FE 28-70 f3.5 - 5.6, FE 55 f1.8
  • Legacy lenses: Voigtlaeder 15 f4.5, Leica Elmarit 90 f2.8, Pentax 135 f3.5

The Leica and Pentax weren't used very much and the Voigtlaender used only in conjunction with the A7S for low light wide shots. The 55 f1.8 was used extensively as well as the 28-70. I must say however, there has to be a better lens than this for the Sony system. I've now been looking at the 24-70 f4 but seeing the mixed reviews and comments I'm pretty reluctant to purchase the lens (especially at the asking price). I've gone a slightly different route here and purchased the 24-240 because I really missed the long end. This is how I tend to see the world and I have difficulty using a wide angle lens. I really have to work on it. I'll be taking this lens together with a couple of primes the next time I take this system with me.

The title of this post could be a mistake some might think, because what has Sony to do with Panasonic. Well, I'm using this post as a primer for the posts to come over the next few weeks as I will be posting a lot of images taken with these systems during my holiday period. I must admit my mose used camera turned out to be the Panasonic GM5 and even though the EVF isn't the best out there it did the job. I always use an EVF to compose and never hold a camera at arms length. That doesn't do it for me.

So, starting today, images will be posted in mixed order from several cameras using different lenses and will be posted in the order that I took them. If you have any comments, especially regarding the FE 24-70 f4, I'll be glad to read them. I hope you enjoy the following images and maybe they could be of use to someone out there.
