Notice the shallow DOF you get with these lenses and sensor size. A lot of people like the m4/3 format because of the increase in DOF you get because of the smaller sensor. These tend to be landscape photographers who require everything in focus from near to infinity. It can however, work the other way around. Because of the 2x factor with the focal length and the fact that the longer the focal length of the lens, the shallower the DOF will be, you can produse effects like in the image above.

I tried this lens on the OM-D and found the resolution and contrast very good. But it is harder than using these lenses on the NEX I admit. I tend not to use the magnify function on these cameras as it distracts me. I've got used to it now that I get perfect focus 95% of the time.
The next few posts I willl try to show you what is possible with these lenses. If you're willing to put the effort in the rewards can be very high. Most, if not all of these images, were taken wide open at f2 or thereabouts.

Coming back to manual focus legacy lenses is really fun. This was about the first one I bought on a whim on ebay for a pittance and it's one of the better manual focus lenses on my shelf. It's actually the lens that got me into these legacy lenses and showed me the potential they have on modern cameras. I'm not saying that they're better than the newer lenses and the fancy coatings they have but it is fun using them and it has put something back into my photography thas was missing for some time.
It actually slows you down too and makes you think about your composition. Care is needed when focusing on m4/3 cameras as the peeking fuction implemented on the NEX cameras is sorely missing.

Panasonic 25 f1.4 mounted on the OM-D

The last for now from the 25 f1.4. Just a taster for you. I'll post some more images when I think they're good enough. Probably at the end of next month or thereabouts.
Really impressed here with the sharpness of the lens and with the DR of the Olympus OM-D. The hightlights were really harsh here but the OM-D managed to keep it all together.

This really is the lens to get for m4/3 format. I've heard a lot about it but really didn't think I needed it until I was shooting a dancing show in low light. That was it, I caved in and got it. Really sharp and works well on the OM-D. Just a couple of shots with this lens right now but I promise there will be more on this lens.

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

This is the last image. I can't fault this one at all. OK, these aren't fine art images but they do tell a story about this lens. If you're looking for a light compact travel lens, this is the one for you.
Notice the use of the square format which I tend to use exclusively with my m4/3 equipment lately. I just like the format and it makes framing the subject easier for me. Also perfect for portrait shots.

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

I think these images are sharp, even at this low resolution. Having said that, the smaller the resolution the shrper the images seems to be. But, having looked at the originals of these on my monitor I've come to the same conclusion. Maybe a little soft at the edges but it's good enough for me. I don't sell my images so I'm quite happy.

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

A small study of a flower to see just how sharp the mZD 14-150 is on the OM-D. Just three images in 3 different posts all taken with the OM-D and the mZD 14-150 lens. This will be the last of the 14-150 images again for now. After these posts I'll go back a little in time and post some images using some "antique" equipment. In the day and age of fast moving markets, and new equipment comes along almost on a daily basis, I think we all tend to get cought up in it to some degree. If you're like me then you get cought up in it a lot. But that's me, I've always been a bit of a technical freak.

I think these three images shows that it's not the equipment we use, but how it's used.
See for yourselves.

Olympus mZD 75-300

Olympus mZD 75-300

My personal opinion about keeping animals in zoos and the like? Well, there's only one reason for it and that is to keep the species alive. The era of the normal zoo where people go to see animals kept in smal cages with no room to move, is coming to an end. And I'm glad of it. Slightly OT I know but since this is my photoblog I'm entiltled to it I suppose.

This is the last of the mZD 75-300 images for now but if I get any requests for more I can still post some. I've now accumulated quite a few from a couple of outings with it. This is definately a lens to take with me on my holidays together with the E-M5. I can strongly recommend it.

Olympus mZD 75-300

This park was pretty amazing. They had really everything for the family outing from huge playgrounds to bird avaiaries, and these Asian small-clawed otters. There was a pair of them making one hell of a racket. This was the female and pretty restless it was too. Would hardly stay in one place for more than a couple of seconds.
