02/03/15 Olympus OM-D E-M1 - Olympus M. 75-300 f4.8-6.7This is the first time I've used this lens for some time because of the type of photography I've been doing lately. Normally I'm a long lens shooter but my projects of late have kept me in the short to middle focal lengths.
I also have the Panasonic 100-300 lens and to be honest there isn't a lot between them. My 75-300 is the original version but Olympus have brought out a second version of the lens and that might be a little better optically but I haven't been able to test the lenses side-by-side. My preference is for using the Olympus because I just like the feel of it and it's a little shorter than the Panasonic.
I'm not going to be posting a lot of images from this combination and decided to post the monochrome images converted in Photoshop using a Gradient Map. For those who haven't tested this method before I can only recommend it. You can get some nice results. 1334

01/29/15 Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 - Pana-Leica D Vario Elmar 14-150 f3.5-5.6 O.I.S.I think everybody has heard of Panasonics new release, the LX100. When I heard about and read the specs on this camera I immediately put in my pre-order. Many would ask what's so special about this camera and the reasons I ordered it. One of my favourite cameras of all time is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1. Couple this camera with the Panasonic LC1 with it's spectacular lens and what do you get? The Panasonic LX100.
One of my favourite P&S cameras is the Panasonic LX5 and image quality is really good at low ISO. One of the best features of this small camera is the aspect ratio switch on the lens. I've been waiting for someone to bring out a large sensor camera with this feature and lo and behold, Panasonic have done it again. Add all these features, a fast fixed lens, in-built EVF, an aspect ratio switch and a 4/3 sensor and you've got a winner. I predict this camera is going to be a winner for Panasonic and all the other companies will follow suit.
So, back to the reason why I'm posting some images from this combination.I haven't used this combination fo some time and I really felt guilty about that so I took it out again after dusting it down. I's actually forgotten how heavy this combination is after using M43 and Sony cameras for some time now. I remember seeing the images from this combination for the first time, I was over the moon. It was the first time I shot raw and developed in Silkypix. I didn't find Silkypix all that bad (not as bad as some people make it out to be), and it got the best image quality out of the Panasonic raw files for me.
Conclusion: Although modern cameras produce better files than the L1, they really hold their own and if anyone is looking for a great combination you could do worse than getting this camera. The Elmar 14-150 f3.5-5.6 is one of the best lenses I've ever used and after trying it out on the E-M1 (via adapter) it still produces some great images at all focal lengths and apertures. It's not too slow to focus either, I can definately live with the speed. 978
