This is a second shot I found to be ok and it's postable I suppose, especially seeing it was taken with the kit lens. I won't be posting any more because the rest look similar to this one. I just thought it interesting to see a couple of these shots taken with a lens that isn't supposed to be of any use to anyone.

01/18/14 Sony Nex-7 - Sony E 18-55 f3.5-5.6 OSS899
NEX-7 Focal Length: 55 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/200 sec ISO: 100 • Sony • Nex-7 • 18-55 f3.5-5.6
01/17/14 Sony Nex-7 - Sony E 18-55 f3.5-5.6 OSSAs we were walking we came across a pool with many dragonflies patrolling their territory to fend off rivals. I decided to stay for awhile and just watch them, then I tried to trck them with the Nex-7. Ever tried to get some dragonfly shots with a kit lens attached to a Nex camera? They're not known for their fast focusing and it's a real challenge. I must have sat thee for about an hour attempting to capture these creatures and the camera was working overtime. I must have taken a few hundred shots in that time in the hope of getting a couple of decent shots. This is one of the few I deemed was a keeper. 1053
NEX-7 Focal Length: 55 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/250 sec ISO: 100 • Sony • Nex-7 • 18-55 f3.5-5.6
01/16/14 Sony Nex-7 - Sony E 18-55 f3.5-5.6 OSSI came across the Sony 18-55 f3.5-5.6 kit lens the other week, and realized I hadn't used it for some time due to me using my Nex bodies for manual focus lenses. So, out I went with the lens mounted on the Nex-7. I should probably have put it on the Nex-5N body but it gave me a chance to see how the Nex-7 handled this lens again. The image above looked a little bland at first look so I gave it a grunge look. Not too much, just so that you can see that it's been worked on. 1029
NEX-7 Focal Length: 55 mm Aperture: f/7.1 Exposure Time: 1/30 sec ISO: 1600 • Sony • Nex-7 • 18-55 f3.5-5.6
01/15/14 Sony Nex-7 - Voigtländer M 90 f3.5Last image from this combination for now. This image is compressed because those buildings in the background aren't that close. Background separation is there but not that much. There are better lenses for this type of shooting, the Leica Elmarit 90 f2.8 comes to mind. It's one of the cheaper Leica lenses and is a joy to use. It's also built like a tank and is quite heavy, especially when using on such a small camera such as the Nex-5N. Using it on the Nex-7 is better but not perfect. My conclusion regarding the Voigtländer M 90 f3.5: 1. Do not use at infinity. 2. Don't let the sun get too near. i.e. If possible shoot with the sun at your back. 3. Enter a negative EC value when using on the Nex bodies. 4. Prepare to do some PP to get the most out of the images. I don't know, I may have purchased a bad copy, but in all honesty, this lens reminds me of the Voigtländer 85 f3.5. They seem to have the same characteristics, low contrast and not all that good when focusing at infinity (or near infinity). Spend a little more for a better lens. The Nikon E-series 100 f2.8 beats this lens hands down, and it was cheaper. 1001
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/2000 sec ISO: 100 • Sony • Voigtländer • Nex-7 • 90 f3.5
01/14/14 Sony Nex-7 - Voigtländer M 90 f3.5This was one image that needed very little processing. Contrast was ok and colour was spot on. It was however front lit, so I expected no problems with this mage. I think the tree on the left brings that little something into the image. 1011
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/200 sec ISO: 100 • Sony • Voigtländer • Nex-7 • 90 f3.5
01/13/14 Sony Nex-7 - Voigtländer M 90 f3.5As you can see in the image above, detail is there but when I opened it in Lightroom there was hardly any contrast in there as it was massively overexposed. Again, detail, exposure and contrast can be put back into the image without losing too much quality loss. 1008
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/200 sec ISO: 100 • Sony • Nex-7 • Voigtländer • 90 f3.5
01/12/14 Sony Nex-7 - Voigtländer M 90 f3.5Another image where a lot of work was necessary. The lens tends to overexpose, especially when the sky is quite light. Looking at the histogram, exposure indicated correctly, so when I'm using this lens I'll always set EC to -1/3 if not -2/3. However I was able to recover a lot of detail in Lightroom so all is not lost. 1006
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/400 sec ISO: 100 • Sony • Voigtländer • Nex-7 • 90 f3.5
01/11/14 Sony Nex-7 - Voigtländer M 90 f3.5Ok, how does it do when photographing buildings. Well the one above came out just great for my taste. Not a lot work done at all but I was focusing on the corner where all the buildings walls come together. It was quite low no I was focusing nowhere near infinity. This could be the problem with this lens, but then again not all lenses are designed to used in this way. 976
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/800 sec ISO: 100 • Sony • Voigtländer • Nex-7 • 90 f3.5
01/10/14 Sony Nex-7 - Voigtländer M 90 f3.5This was taken wide open at f3.5. I wanted to see how the background separation was like. Focus was on the man on the left. As you can see the separation is there but the background is quite clear. I would have thought the background would be a little blurrier than it is. I didn't have to do a lot of work on this one either to get it to look the way it does. 1008
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/320 sec ISO: 100 • Sony • Nex-7 • Voigtländer • 90 f3.5
01/09/14 Sony Nex-7 - Voigtländer M 90 f3.5Continuing on from yesterdays post, this image was very good from the time I opened it in Lightroom. There was hardly any post processing done and as you can see there is plenty of micro contrast in the image and it's tack sharp. The next few posts I'll be showing some more from this lens and you can make your own decision if it's a worthy buy or not. 871
