03/10/13 CV 85 f3.5 adapted for Sony Nex-7I'm trying really really hard to like this lens but somehow I don't think it's going to work out.
I've had this lens on a few outings already and I keep coming back to the same conclusion. It's not up there with some other lenses, namely the Leica Heliar 75 f2.5 and the Minolta Rokkor 90 F4 and the Leica Elmarit 90 f2.8. Those lenses are really top of the line and produce great images.
I think this one is going on the to sell list.
I'll be posting some more images from this lens for the next few days so you can determine for yourselves the quality that can be expected from this lens.

NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/100 sec ISO: 100 03/09/13 Voigtländer Skopar 21mm f4Anoter one that shows the colour shift. One thing it does do however, and I find it kind of cool, is that it draws the viewer to the center of the image. It acts like a vignette. Nice rendition again. I wish they could fix this in firmware though, but I'm not holding my breath.
Last image from the Voigtländer 21mm f/4 lens for now. 1287
NEX-5N Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/100 sec ISO: 100 03/08/13 Voigtländer Skopar 21mm f4This image definately shows the colour shift problem. Don't forget it happens with rangefinder lenses only. Any other manual focus lens you use on the Nex cameras do not show this problem.

NEX-5N Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/80 sec ISO: 100 03/07/13 Voigtländer Skopar 21mm f4Strangely enough, this image shows very little colour shift at the sides. The next 2 posts does display this effect but you're going to have to wait for those.
Again I like the endition these lenses give me on certain types of images. Very Leica-like I think. 1168
NEX-5N Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/200 sec ISO: 100 03/06/13 Voigtländer Skopar 21mm f4This is a new lens to enter the fold. I was actually looking at the 25 f4 but I got such a good deal on this one I couldn't say no. One thing really does bother me when using these rangefinder lenses on the Nex system is the colour shift at the edges of the images. This is not only restricted to the Nex-7 as you will see in the following images. I used this lens on the Nex-5N and it is still visible.

NEX-5N Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/60 sec ISO: 100 03/05/13 Voigtländer Heliar 75 f2.5This is the last image from this lens for the present but I hope you can see what I'm talking about when I say that these images are sharp corner to corner (although the image might be a little small for you to see). This image is nothing special but I still like it.
More later on this lens. 1215
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/50 sec ISO: 100 03/04/13 Voigtländer Heliar 75 f2.5When I look at the rendition of images like this one, I tend to rethink what I like using because to me, modern lenses do not give you such images. They tend to be a little plasticky, although they are sharp.
Some of the images I get with these lenses appear not to be sharp but are, in reality, sharp.
Still reminds me of what Leica lenses are capable of. 1389
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/125 sec ISO: 100 03/03/13 Voigtländer Heliar 75 f2.5The Heliar 75 f2.5 is very sharp on the Nex and m4/3 systems. I like using it on the E-PL1 although focusing is a little harder but the lens delivers; a little better on the m4/3 system. Or it could just be that I like the rendition better on that system. That 24MP sensor is really hard on some of these lenses. They just weren't built for this type of system and I'm thinking that the sensor out-resolves the lens. 1217
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/125 sec ISO: 100 03/02/13 Voigtländer 75 f2.5I've used this lens quite a bit on the m4/3 system and on the Nex-5N but not really on the Nex-7. This sensor really does require very good lenses to shine. Although focusing is quite good using the peeking (or is it peaking?) function my eyes aren't what they used to be and the more I use these legacy lenses the more I tend to appreciate AF lenses. I think I'll start using the Nex-7 with the LA-EA2.
Lenses that I can use are the 85 f2.8, the 35 f1.8 and the 50 f1.4. This way I get AF using PDAF.

NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/400 sec ISO: 100 03/01/13 Sony Nex-5N mounting an adapted Pentax FA 43 f1.9This is the last of the FA 43 f1.9 images for now, but I think I'll be using this a lot more when the weather gets a little better. It was ok on the Nex-5N and something that you can carry around all day without tiring out. The Nex-5N is really small and I don't think I want to use anything smaller and I never will. A little weight in the hand does seem to stabilize my hand and blurry images aren't really a problem. Of course using a tripod is always a better method, but not something you want to do when out on a stroll...especially when you not alone. 1173
