Konica 135 f2.5 on Nex-7

This is the last band we listened to that day, and it went well into the evening before we headed home (which took a long time due to the crowds present). This sort of lighting makes it really difficult to manual focus, even with the peeking function. I've got my settings set to high and yellow. This is where I changes to red because I couldn't really determine when focus was achieved or not. I had to differentiate between the rather yellow lighting and the peeking fuction. Didn't work too well which is why I changed to red. Worked a lot better. I'm glad I had the 135 on the camera. It was perfect for what I wanted.

I not only listened to the bands, I wandered the stalls that were a little off the main section. You could listen to some people doing their own thing here as the one in this image. Althought he 135 was a little long for this type of photography I did my utmost to get some different images during the day.

Another one of this band, I've forgot the name (shame on me). I think it was the only band to be playing without a set of drums at the back. Rather refreshing because the music certainly sounded different. I liked it a lot.
I haven't mentioned the Sony Nex-7 at all during these last few posts because there's really not a lot more to say about it. A very capable camera that fits well in the hand and produces very good images. I use my Nex system really for pure manual focus lenses (well 99% of the time anyway) and I really enjoy it. The peeking function really helps my tired eyes with manual focusing.

This band did a couple of pieces just playing their guitars and excellent pieces they were too. I wish I could have stayed longer to listen to them but my better half wanted to move on. I got a couple of shots in before I left though.

I would just like to post a few more shots taken with this lens to show you how sharp these can be if you get the focus right. This lady was not part of the band and I think she was getting married shortly after. She just got up on stage and sang a song with the help of the band. She was quite good too.

I like it when they generate some smoke anf light it with different coloured spots. Really does make the backgroun for a lot of these images. Maybe you've noticed in the last few posts, this band did that a lot.
I do believe that they are now using LED lighting for these concerts. I think I've posted an image or two showing this. Three advantages to these LED lights I can think of right now are: 1. Less heat being generated, if any. 2. These LED light can be bought with the exact Kelvin temperature you require. If you want daylight white balance you buy the ones with a temperature of 5500 Kelvin. 3. Cost. By that I mean you require a lot less electricity to supply these. That in my books is good for the globe that we live on.

Another advantage of these concerts where the singers can't move around too much is pre-setting the focus at a certain f-stop. If you then want to take a photograph just raise the camera to your eye, change EC if necessary and press the button. Bingo.

I like this image for the rention of the image, skin tone and how the blue was captured. I only had time to take one frame here and I nailed it too. Quite proud of myself. This is after using the manual systems for about 3 hours in the afternoon. It took me that amount of time to get into things again. This is where photographers, either professional or amateur, who actually photograph every day, have the advantage over people like myself. It really does take time to get into the grind again which means that some nice images get deleted because of focus issues or something else.
One must really practice every day to get really proficient with these systems.

Certainly the lens lacks a little contrast, but nearly all of these older lenses do. Lens design and manufacture has improved over time as well as new lens coatings have been introduced. I don't find it a problem that they lack a little contrast, just add a little more during post processing. Some might find that remark a little disturbing, but then again I don't earn my living by being a professional photographer. They might see things a little different than myself.

Like I said in the previous post, if you get the focus right, you cannot complain about image quality (provided you get a good copy of the lens of course). I must admit, I was shooting constantly with the two system I took and I did have a lot of misfocused shots. I deleted a lot of images from this outing. But, the more I used it, the more I knew where to focus to get in focus what I wanted in focus. practice makes perfect the say, and I personally don't shoot often enough to reach perfection with these systems.
