Another one of my favourites from the Norway trip and taken with the 18 - 55 kit lens. I hear so much moaning about this lens but I find very good. This was the only zoom I took with me on the journey, the rest being primes ranging from 15 to 135. Strangely enough I didn't touch the 135 at all. I didn't think I could hold it in the cold and strong wind. Remember, the Nex cameras don't have IBIS.

NEX-5N Focal Length: 55 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/100 sec ISO: 125 04/04/12 Sony Nex CamerasI was out on deck trying to find something to photograph as two crew members came out and went directly to the lifeboat. Now, this is when I started to get worried as the water temperature isn't that warm in the Arctic Circle. Luckily for me, it was just being serviced, but it's at times like this that you make sure you know where the life jackets are etc.
Thew crew members on these ships are really hardy people. The guests were running around looking like Michelin men, and the crew in just a shirt and tie or just a t-shirt. 1106
NEX-5N Focal Length: 55 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/100 sec ISO: 3200 04/03/12 Sony Nex CamerasThis is one of my favourite images from the whole trip. I've left the blue in the image attempting to give the impression of cold it really was out on deck. Many a time I had to go back inside too warm my fingers and the camera. As a side note, I didn't once have a problem with either the Nex-7 or the Nex-5N during the whole trip, and that was in temperatures reaching -25C. I don't think the cameras will experience those temperatures again. 1146
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/8 sec ISO: 200 • Sony • Nex-7 • Voigtlaender • 15 f4.5
04/02/12 Sony Nex CamerasThe 18-55 kit lens was stuck on the Nex-5N for the first half of the voyage. I swapped it over to the Nex-7 for the second half as I wanted some wide angle shots that weren't spoilt by colour problems. The Nex-5N doesn't show this problem. I'm still impressed by the kit lens however and will not be getting rid of it, especially as the lens selection for the Nex cameras isn't all that great right now.
The scene above is typical for Norway this far north. The towns seem to be strung out along the cliff face, just hanging on to a bit of land between the sea and the mountains. Really amazes me how people can live up there, but then I don't suppose they know any different. They're used to it. 1087

04/01/12 Sony Nex CamerasWe had some terrible weather heading north. This image is typical of the low cloud cover we had with some very heavy rainfall. I converted this to B&W in SFX2 to better show the clouds that were just rolling over us. Nex-7 with the CV 15 f4.5. 1123
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/200 sec ISO: 400 • Sony • Nex-7 • Voigtlaender • 15 f4.5
03/31/12 Sony Nex CamerasHaving to post process the purple colour out of these photographs was a lot of work. Very time consuming. It was well worth it though. This is a squall that we were sailing parallel to. I'm glad I wasn't in it. It was freezing and I'm sure the rain was also. 1100

03/30/12 Sony Nex CamerasAgain with the Nex-7 and CV 15 f4.5. We noticed that quite a few houses were built on rocky islands out in the middle of nowhere. I couldn't for the life of me think why except that it may be a summer house. I don't think anyone could live there in the winter. 1322
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/30 sec ISO: 200 • Sony • Nex-7 • Voigtlaender • 15 f4.5
03/29/12 Sony Nex CamerasTaken with the Nex-7 fitted with the Voigtlaender Heliar 15 f4.5 lens. I know it doesn't look like it but I could hardly hold the camera still as the wind was gusting heavily. I took a number of shots here to make certain that one came out ok. This is the only half decent one I managed out of 9 shots. It was also bitterly cold up here. This lens is fine but, I won't use it on the Nex-7 any more because of bad colour shift. By that I mean that not only were the corners purple (fixable with a program caller Cornerfix), but both sides were purple. It took me quite some time to fix it in post processing. 1704

03/28/12 Sony Nex CamerasThis photograph was taken in Trodheim. This cathedral is quite large as you can see from the person walking into the image. I'm qquite surprised at the quality of the 18-55 kit lens. From what I've read on the Internet the quality varies considerably. I'm quite happy with mine. 1270
NEX-5N Focal Length: 29 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/60 sec ISO: 1250 03/27/12 Sony Nex CamerasThis one was taken with the Nokton 35 f1.2 II in one of the largest sea water aquariums in the world. Obviously this specimen wasn't alive but it just shows what's possible with the Nokton. 1928
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/60 sec ISO: 640 • Sony • Nex-7 • Nokton • Voigtlaender • 35 f1.2 II • Nokton
