Panasonic LX5 II

The previous image was taken in 16 x 9 format as a jpg image. This one is also in 16 x 9 format but taken in raw format. I just prefer the control you have in raw and tend to use that format 99% of the time. One thing I like about the LX5 is the change format dial on the lens I do use it quite a bit. I tend to take multiple images of the same scene using all the formats available and then I'll select the one I prefer most.

Panasonic LX5

Panasonic LX5

In the last couple of years I just haven't considered P&S cameras. Reason being the small sensor used, slow to focus, shutter lag and of course image quality. I still have a couple around the house but I rarely use them unless...either I'm going somewhere where I just can't take my other systems because they're not allowed or it's not appropriate for instance. One camera that has really surprised me though is the Panasonic LX5. I bought this because I can use the same EVF as on the m4/3 cameras I have. True enough, the EVF is not the best out there but I think it's good enough for my purposes. What I just cannot do is make pictures holding the camera at arms length. I just can't and that is final. If a camera doesn't have one I just won't buy it.
I just want to show a few images taken with the LX5 taken on a very windy and blustery day.

Voigtlaender Heliar 75 f2.5

I believe I could post these images from the Heliar all year long, I'm so thrilled with them. I never really expected these to be so good. Must note though that these images were taken with very bright light. Must have been mid afternoon, so I'll have to try it out in better light (note to self: take tripod). I see these barges unloading coal almost daily here, They must carry tons of the stuff. If you haven't seen these barges on the Main, then you would be quite surprised at their size. I think one of the images to follow show how masive these things are.

Again taken from the north side. The ship is one of many sightseeing ships that go up and down the Main. Quite nice on a sunny and warm day.

This is one taken north of the Main on my way back from downtown. The tower that can be seen in the backgroud is the Henninger Turm (the local beer is called Henninger). There used to be a rotating cafe at the top. Must see if it's been restored and back in business again. Great view from there. These barges constaltly travel up and down the Main and some are really huge. Always a great sight.

In the foreground are the new flats built during the rejuvination phase for this area. Not cheap! Wouldn't mind one myself but I's being realistic about this, it's just not going to happen. Must be a great view from the top of those buildings. They all look down on the river Main (which runs through Frankfurt).

There's some interesting new archtectural buildings popping up in the area right now. This is one of them. It was quite a tricky exposure as the mid-afternoon sun was directly on it.

This is part of downtown Frankfurt, just a part of the skyline one can see from south of the city.

These buildings are not as close together as it seems. Again the Helair has brought everything closer together. A great effect that can be put to good use on many occasions.

I like to think of this building as Gurkin 2, or Cigar 2, not dissimilar to the one in London. I like the way that this short tele lens has contracted the buldings in the background, bringing them all close together.
