This photograph was taken in Trodheim. This cathedral is quite large as you can see from the person walking into the image. I'm qquite surprised at the quality of the 18-55 kit lens. From what I've read on the Internet the quality varies considerably. I'm quite happy with mine.

03/26/12  Sony Nex CamerasAgain with the new Nokton 35 f1.2 II lens, it produces lovely photographs. I just love the rendition it gives. This fast lens (with a couple of othersI took along) helped a lot because of the low light levels. Here, it was quite light which wasn't typical at all during the trip. 1580

03/25/12  Sony Nex CamerasDuring the month of January I went on a little cruise holiday to the north of Norway. It turned out to one of the most amazing trips I have ever done. Starting out in Bergen we travelled north, over the tip of Norway and down to Kirkenes, situated not far from the Russian border. As you can imagine, it's quite cold in January when you're in the Arctic Circle. That would be an understatment really. When on the ship travelling at an average speed of 15 knots the wind is really really cold, and trying to photograph scenes when you can't feel your fingers is no fun at all. What really upset me a bit was the amount of darkness one has, or put it another way, the lack of daylight you have during the day. The longest period we had was around 4 hours of daylight in one day.
However, after I got over my initial shock, we had some tremendous light when travelling back down towards Bergen. I would like to share some photographs of that trip with you in the following posts.
This one taken with the Sony Nex-7 and the CV Nokton 35 f1.2 II. An excellent combination which doesn't produce purple colour shifts. Wider lenses are a mess on the Nex-7 so my Nex-5N has been designated my wide angle camera from now on. 1430

03/24/12  Olympus mZD 75-300I had to post this image again as I've had quite a few questions regarding this lens. I find it very good. It might not be all that cheap but it handles very well. I use it also in manual focus mode on the Oly Pen cameras. Also good fun. This image was hand-held at 300. You can't get much better than that I don't think. 1894

I'm not sure if modern day lenses are any better than the old manual focus ones. Zooms maybe, but the primes...not so sure. They will cost you next to nothing, and all you require then is an adapter to fit the m4/3 cameras. 2021

03/21/12  Olympus E-PL1 and the mZD 14-150Here's another exaample of using this lens for all sorts. My favourite subject, cloud formations. I just can't help myself with these, I just always look up and if I see something unusual I'll snap away. My wife thinks I'm nuts. 1359

03/20/12  Olympus E-PL1 and the mZD 14-150And we're back to the E-PL1 and the mZD 14-150 again. I've been using this combination for all sorts of photography and it really impresses me. It's still fun to use, even after I've got the Sony Nex series with manual focus lenses. It's so small in the hand and is something you can carry around all day. To think you've got a range here of 28 - 300 in 35mm terms, it really is amazing. I don't think I want anything smaller than this though, it would then be uncomfortable to use. In other words it would be too small for me. 1335

03/19/12  Voigtlaender Nokton 50 f1,5 for NikonIf you didn't know already I'm a big fan of Voigtländer lenses. Excellent quality and images look just as good as if they were taken with Leica lenses. The rendition is not quite as good as the Leica lenses but I'm not going to pay the prices that Leica are asking. Even the second hand market charges much more for Leica lenses than what the Voigtländer lenses cost new. Since I'm not a professional here, I really do have to think about money at times. I don't earn a penny from my hobby, I just take pictures because I like it. But...remember you can't take that money with you when they carry you to the graveyard.
One thing about these Nikon mount lenses is that the aperture ring is the other way around. Just something to think about if you're thinking about purchasing one. Does take time to to get used to it. 1629
